Cobia Fishing Jekyll and St. Simons Islands

Cobia fishing Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island Fishing Charters

Cobia fishing is serious business here in Jekyll and Saint Simons Island. While these fish can be caught much of the year in our offshore waters around structure, the late spring migratory fish really get anglers excited. This run of fish can be as short as a couple of weeks or we can have several runs lasting a month or more. On the Southern part of Cumberland Island down to St. Mary’s, Cobia are often spotted free swimming along rips and color changes, swimming around bait pods, or following giant Manta rays that swim up our coastline. Offshore of Jekyll and St. Simons Island we find them on our inshore reefs, color changes, or simply hanging around offshore bouys. Live bait of many varieties cast just in front of these fish can be deadly, as can various jigs and soft plastic baits, and even brightly colored fly patterns. Anytime you are fishing submerged structure keep a sharp look out as these fish tend to be curious and often swim up to inspect your vessel. It is always a good idea to have a rod rigged and ready when offshore. Not only are cobia a great game fish, but they are quite tasty on the table as well.
