Southeastern Angling Fishing Report – Week of August 12
Tarpon – The tarpon bite has been excellent this week. Our anglers have been finding fish both on the beach and in the sounds, especially around the big schools of pogies. Calm mornings have made for some great sight fishing, and we’ve had multiple hookups on both live bait and artificials. Fly anglers have had their shots too, with plenty of fish in the 80–120 lb range and a few bigger ones mixed in.
Inshore – Redfish are chewing well on the flats and around shell bars. Early mornings have been perfect for topwater plugs, and we’ve had steady action on shrimp and jigs throughout the tides. Speckled trout are hanging on deeper edges and creek mouths, and live shrimp under corks have been putting fish in the boat.
Nearshore / Other Species – Tripletail are still around crab floats and channel markers, and we’ve been sight casting to some nice fish on sunny days. A few big jacks have shown up along the beach as well, giving anglers all the drag-pulling fun they can handle.
Overall, the weather has given us light winds, clean water, and plenty of bait — everything we like to see this time of year. If you’ve been waiting to get on the water, now’s the time
