February 2020 Coastal Georgia Fishing Report

As we fly through a so far mild but rainy 2020 winter I can’t help but think about warm sunny spring days where glass minnow dimple the waters surface like morning raindrops as the boat passes by them.  But here I am typing this February 2020 Coastal Georgia Fishing Report

Inshore

It’s been a good winter overall. The inshore bite continues to be steady as water temperatures stay in the low 60’s near the beaches and mid 60’s inshore up river.  Captain Rob and I have been fishing upriver and up in the backs of creeks most days. Fish the deeper bends around low tide as this is where we have been catching most of our Speckled Trout.  Slowly worked D.O.A Cal paddle tails on 1/4 ounce Strike King jig heads have been our go to artificial lures and of course a live shrimp under a popping cork will always do the trick.

Near Shore

The nearshore bite has been really good as well. Just offshore of St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island Georgia are wrecks and artificial reefs that consist of everything from old concrete bridge rubble to tanks and retired Navy ships. 3 and 4oz Diamond jigs will catch everything from 10 inch Black Sea Bass to 40lb Bull Reds and a Shimano Jigging rods pared with Seigler SGN reels spooled with 40lb Powerpro Slick will do the trick! Vertical Jigging will produce bites almost every drop with summer trout, bluefish, bull reds, sea bass, and more for the taking.  It’s all about action when visiting these offshore grounds!

Additions to the fleet for 2020 are a couple inshore boats we picked up.  First is a 22ft Sea Strike and the Second is a 23 C-Hawk.  We will utilize the boats for kids trips and fall and winter trips.  They are additions to our current fleet of Dorado tower boats and Hells Bay skiffs and will fit nicely into our guiding and fishing routines.  We are also looking to add a guide for the 2020 season. If you are a licensed USCG Captain and know the area and fishing please feel free to reach out to us via email [email protected]
