I hope this finds you warm after a great day of fishing sitting infront of the computer. Winter in Georgia once again has in my opinion been cold. Reports were for a mild winter and this may be the case starting this week where temperatures are in the 60’s for the next week according to our friends at the weather channel. I fished a few days last week and the water was like ice. Reading’s on my Humminbird were 42 to 43 degrees all day. We fished a few spots and got a few fish to eat before heading to see some new waters. It blows my mind that I have not even come close to seeing everything that is out there in this area. There is just so much water! Anyway I ran a bit to a spot I have looked at for a long time and WOW what a great spot! The water was perfect but fish were no where to be found. Water temp were still in the low 40 degree range and it was now 2pm. As the tide turned I spotted a few fish cruising up onto the flats. They were in small groups of 3 to 5 and we made several cast at them before realizing they were trout. This was cool. The water was gin clear and there we were sight casting trout on the fly. Even no we were unable to get any to eat we continued up into the flats looking for more signs of life but in the end it was like a desert. We ended up seeing about 15 to 20 trout in water less than 8 inches deep. Redfish were non existant but I believe that as the water approches that magic 50 degree mark that this new area will flourish with life. I cant wait to go back. Tomorrow is off exploring again so check back for the results.
On another note the fishing has been really good on days that the tempatures are not in the 40’s
Tight lines and lets go catch some fish!
